Folic acid is a derivative of pteridine, also known as vitamin B9 and vitamin M. It is widely found in meat, fresh fruits and vegetables. It is a yellow crystalline powder, tasteless and odorless. Its sodium salt is easily soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol and other organic solvents are insoluble in cold water but slightly soluble in hot water. Instable in acidic solution, easily destroyed by light.
