Product Description

 

Methyl salicylate (oil of wintergreen or wintergreen oil) is an organic ester naturally produced by many species of plants, particularly wintergreens.

The compound was first extracted and isolated from plant species Gaultheria procumbens in 1843.

It can be manufactured synthetically and it used as a fragrance, in foods, beverages, and liniments. It forms a colorless to yellow or reddish liquid and exhibits a characteristic odor and taste of wintergreen.

For acute joint and muscular pain, methyl salicylate is used as a rubefacient and analgesic in deep heating liniments.

 

Function and Application

1). Used as a flavouring for food, toothpaste, cosmetics, also used in painkillers, insecticides, polishes, inks, etc.
2). It can be used as modifier for certain flower fragrance, such as ylang-ylang, magnolia, acacia, mimosa, tuberose, gardenia, waxberry, mignonette grass and so on. Mainly used in medicine products and health supplies such as toothpaste, tooth powder, mouthwash, talcum powder, drive wind oil and so on. Can also be used for industrial products such as glue, glue paper, card stickers, paste and so on fragrance. Can also be used for food flavouring, such as strawberry, grape, walnut, liulan, pungent flavouring as a special green gas.
3). Printing and dyeing industry as a high-temperature heat carrier.
